Laura L. Anderson was born and raised in Mobile, Alabama. She is married and has two daughters. She attended Florida State University, and graduated with honors in 1983 with a Bachelor of Science degree in economics. While in Tallahassee, Ms. Anderson was actively involved in numerous campus organizations, holding leadership positions in student government and her sorority, Chi Omega, and singing with the University Singers. She was honored to be tapped in membership to Gold Key and Pi Gamma Mu (leadership and academic honorary societies), and selected among statewide applicants to serve as an intern in the Office of former Governor Bob Graham.
Ms. Anderson returned to Alabama for law school, graduating from the University of Alabama School of Law in 1986. While in law school she served as associate editor of the Law and Psychology Review. After graduation she spent one year in Montgomery, Alabama as staff attorney to Alabama Supreme Court Justice Janies L. Shores, the first woman in United States history to be elected as a state Supreme Court justice, and then went back to school, this time to the University of Florida, earning a Masters of Law degree in taxation in 1988.
Ms. Anderson practiced with an established law firm in Atlanta, Georgia for two years, assisting clients in tax and estate planning. In search of a better quality of life, Ms. Anderson and her husband, Patrick, left successful careers in Atlanta and moved to Brevard County in June of 1990. Since arriving in Florida, Ms. Anderson has limited her practice to the areas of estate planning, probate and guardianship law, with particular emphasis on Medicaid planning.
Ms. Anderson serves on the Board of Directors of various organizations including the Senior Resource Alliance, Brevard County Estate Planning Council, and the Space Coast Chapter of the Florida State Guardianship Association. She is a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys and the Elder Law and Real Property, Probate and Trust Law Sections of The Florida Bar. She is admitted to practice before the courts of the states of Florida, Georgia and Alabama. Ms. Anderson is Board Certified in Wills, Trusts and Estates.
